Fall Writing Group (Online)
Death, Grief, and Transformation
Service Description
Join facilitator Lyndsey McGuire for this six OR eight-week online immersion into prompt-based writing. Inspired by the teachings of Natalie Goldberg’s "Writing Down the Bones," this class offers everyone in the group an opportunity to explore the concept of writing as both a meditative and a creative practice. This session's theme will be "Death, Grief, and Transformation," and students will be asked to read the memoir "Dying" by Cory Taylor. Students are encouraged to be vulnerable within the safe container of the group, to keep their pens moving and to write without restraint, ignoring the impulse to edit along the way. This style of writing allows for messiness, imperfection, and spontaneity. There is no criticism or feedback given. This helps to not only take the constraints and expectations off of the writer, but also helps to hone deep listening skills for everyone in the group. Writers of all skill levels are invited to explore their creativity and to access our shared humanity by writing and sharing the stories that reside within each of us.
